The Hupkwondo Pledge:

"I pledge to train body, mind and spirit, in a healthy and positive way, respect instructors, seniors and parents, be strong and respect the dignity of others and build a more harmonious and peaceful world."

Rules for the Dojang*

1. No watches or jewelry are to be worn during class.
2. Smoking, chewing gum/tobacco, eating and drinking are prohibited in the dojang.
3. Shoes must be removed before entering the dojang.
4. Students should bow at the door when entering and leaving the dojang.
5. Students should always bow before and after speaking to instructors or senior students and use terms of respect such as "Yes sir" (or ma’am), "no sir," "Pardon me" etc. All instructors’ commands or corrections should be answered with an enthusiastic "Yes sir!" or "Thank you sir!" (or ma’am, as appropriate). If a command or instruction isn’t understood, wait for an appropriate moment and then politely ask the instructor to clarify or explain. All black belts, including guests from other clubs or disciplines are to be greeted with a bow and treated with the same respect and deference due to you own Chief Instructor.
6. Students should use the following titles when they speak to black belt holders: 1st through 3rd Dan: Bu Sa Bum Nim; 4th through 6th Dan: Sa Bum Nim; 7th and 8th Dan: Sa Bu Nim; 9 Dan: Sa Sung Nim.
7. Students should bow and say "Shen-en" (which means "grace") as a formal greeting or farewell rather than simply "hello" or "good-bye."
8. When Grand Master Lim or the Chief Instructor enters the dojang, the senior student will call attention and everyone should turn and bow to him.
9. Students should not face the instructor or flags when adjusting their dobuks.
10. Students should observe common standards of hygiene such as keeping one’s dobuk clean, keeping one’s body clean and keeping one’s fingernails short and clean.
11. Students should move quickly to line up. Upon lining up, stand at attention to await the instructor’s commands.
12. Profanity, obscene gestures or actions, unnecessary roughness towards a fellow student, loss of temper or other actions unbecoming to a martial artist are strictly prohibited.
13. If accidental contact is made during sparring, students should stop and bow to each other, signaling apology and acceptance.
14. Loud conversation, laughing in excess, and other horseplay has no place in a HupKwonDo school.
15. Leaning on walls, railings or posts, sprawling on the floor and other slouchy behaviour will not be tolerated.
16. Never be disrespectful towards the instructor. Though a student is allowed to disagree with the instructor, the student must first obey the instructor and discuss the matter later.
17. All belt promotions must be authorized by the Chief Instructor or by Grand Master Lim.
18. Always remember that what you are learning is a potentially deadly martial art. HupKwonDo students are never to initiate violence and must conduct themselves in a responsible and courteous manner both inside and outside of the dojang.
19. Students must purchase all their sparring equipment and their dobuk from the HupKwonDo club.
