Information on Classes
Our regular classes are open to women, men, boys and girls of all ages and levels of fitness. Family enrollment is encouraged. Potential students are encouraged to participate in a free trial before signing up. Classes are on-going. Students may register at any time. You wouldn't buy shoes without trying them on first. We think it's just as important for you to choose a martial art that fits you. That's why we encourage you to try HupKwonDo before you sign up. We are a community based club, working from rented space rather than a commercial store front. Students benefit from a low instructor to student ratio. Being community based also means low overhead and reasonable fees, but it doesn't mean compromising quality. 5th Dan Black Belt and Chief Instructor, Gary Eikenberry has taught self-defence and martial arts in the National Capital Region since 1989. He earned his ITF International Instructor's Certificate in 1991, training with General Choi Hong Hi, President and Founder of the ITF. He currently trains privately with, and in 1994, was certified as an instructor by, Grand Master Lim Ching Sing, President and Founder of Hupkwondo International. Our primary concern is the development of our students in a healthy, supportive atmosphere.
Class schedule and information
By bus, take OCTranspo #86 from Elmvale and get off at the 3rd stop on Southvale, cross the street and walk up to the path through to Lancaster (across the street from the park). [MapPoint Map]
All aspects of HupKwonDo are geared towards practical self-defence, but we realize that not everyone is interested in the uniforms, belt levels and other more traditional martial arts aspects of HupKwonDo. Because of this we offer the option of attending only our monthly self-defence workshops.
COST:While we realize that cost is always a consideration, and even though our fees are generally lower than most commercial schools, we strongly believe that price should never be the determining factor when choosing a martial arts or self-defence training program. You should visit our (or any other) club and take advantage of a trial class, open house or workshop and talk with instructors and students in an effort to determine if it meets your personal objectives and is a good fit for you and/or your child.
* Please note: Regular classes are not held during the months of July and August, but special training opportunities are usually available.
There is a 10% bonus for families with 2 or more members training together when prepaying 20 or 40 classes (i.e. each family member gets 22 or 44 classes when paying the regular price for 20 or 40 classes) All prices above apply to prepaid classes for a single student. Fees are non-transferrable and non-refundable. Prepaid classes cannot be shared or transferred between students. Fees do not include annual HupKwonDo International membership fees (mandatory for all HupKwonDo students: adults $30, children 16 and under $25), equipment, private or other special lessons or promotion exams. Prepaid class credits expire if a student fails to attend class for 2 full months or more (not including summer break) unless prior special arrangements have been made.
